As part of the study abroad program with AIFS, you are given a whole day guided tour around the five towns in the Cinque Terre region along the Italian coastline: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. All of these towns are beautiful in their own right, but my favorite town has to be Monterosso al Mare. Each of the other towns, in my opinion, seems to be lacking in textiles and space. Also, the other towns are all placed on steep hillsides, which means that you walk up and down a steep incline the whole time, which I did not enjoy that much. On the other hand, Cinque Terre has the best seafood restaurants that I have experienced.
How does AIFS conduct this tour? We all board a pretty big boat from La Spezia and sail to the port of each of the five towns. It was all very beautiful, and I recommend that you have your best camera because you will have lots of opportunities to take photos by the cliffs and the coastline with your friends.
Unfortunately, I do not know enough about the region because I was there for less than a day. But I guarantee that you will have lots of fun. I will never forget feeling the warm breeze, eating seafood at a restaurant by the ocean, and hearing the waves crash. If you study abroad in Florence, this will be part of your study abroad program, and I guarantee that you will love it.
