During my time in Florence, I found wonderful places where you can eat the best food that the city has to offer. But at the same time, I had to make sure that I was not lured into any tourist traps because there are a lot. For example, if you go to the Duomo and try to eat at a restaurant there, the food will still be good, but not to the true standard that Florence has to offer.
If you ever visit Florence or any city in Italy and you see pictures of the food on the posted menu, never eat there. It is a tourist trap. Also, if you ever see a worker outside of the restaurant trying to lure customers inside by trying to hand them a menu or engaging in small talk, I recommend that you stay away. Most great restaurants don’t have to resort to luring in customers.
One of the best places to eat, and the most affordable in my opinion, is Trattoria il Carcello. It is very home-like, and the menu never changes. I highly recommend the Osso Buco in red sauce because it is filling and cheap for a dish that is that good. My next recommendation, Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco, is considered one of the top five restaurants in Florence. It is very pricy, and you have to get a reservation at least a day or two in advance. But it is worth it. There, I got a stuffed rabbit at a reasonable price along with awesome side dishes and a first-course pasta. Everything was excellent.
If you are looking for dessert, you need to eat at Vivoli, featuring their signature affogato and tons of different gelato options. It is reasonably priced and a must-visit when you come to Florence.
Finally, in the search for the best panini in Florence, I recommend Schiacciateria de Neri because the popular All’Antico Vinaio is more expensive and very busy all of the time. Schiacciateria de Neri also has larger portion sizes compared to All’Antico Vinaio.
